ROV 3 was collected during the CORSUB 0425 cruise (April, 2025). It was collected in the western part of the area 3new of the project, and it was NS oriented.
The ROV crosses a seabed sector where algal reefs ( = Coralligenous), one of the most iconic mesophotic biocostruction of the Mediterranean Sea, occurs on the top of a large outcrop of rocky substrate.
Interestingly, the Coralligenous covers the underlying substrate and it shows a very complex surface with respect to the substrate, which contributes to increase the biological and ecological value of the seafloor.
The ROV crosses a seabed sector where coarse-grained biogenic sediment, rich in boxwork rhodoliths, occur. You can also see large outcrops of rocky substrate, hosting a variegate association of benthic fauna, among which calcareous red algae , sponges, sea squirts and ostreids.
Unfortunately, there is also an abandoned rope, partially trapped around the outcrop.
ROV 1 was collected during the CORSUB 0425 cruise (April, 2025). It was collected in the western part of the area 1 of the project, and it was NS oriented.
